The same world, a wider frame
Operation Alexandra began as a 2018 Amstrad CPC game by 4MHz. Its original score had to live inside that machine; the later synthwave album keeps the identity of the game while opening the sound into a wider electronic space.
The six-track release is not simply the chip soundtrack played with different instruments. It reimagines the material and adds music inspired by the game's Cold War setting.
Why revisit a finished soundtrack?
Moving between the AY-3-8912 and synthwave exposes what belongs to the composition and what belongs to the hardware. A melody can remain recognisable while its scale, texture and dramatic weight change completely.
For me, that tension is the interesting part: one soundtrack, two technological languages and the same imaginary mission underneath.
